Just after a year of being conferred with India’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna Prof. C.N.R. Rao was conferred with Japan’s highest civilian award, Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star for his outstanding contributions to science and Indo-Japanese science cooperation.

Prof. C.N.R. Rao has earned worldwide acclamation for his pioneering research in solid-state chemistry, structural chemistry and nano materials. He has published over 1600 research papers and has honorary doctorates from over 60 universities from around the world.

Adding yet one more prestigious title to his long list of awards, Prof. Rao has indeed made the nation proud once again. The Logical Indian community congratulates the visionary for his outstanding feats and exceptional achievements.

On 25 April, when everyone in Nepal was running for his life during the earthquake, Dr Ram Prasad Sapkota and his attendant were in a hospital by the bedside of a pregnant woman and trying to save her life.

The woman had delivered a stillborn (dead) child, and Dr Sapkota was stitching up her uterus when the earthquake struck. Any other person would have run out of the old building to save his life, but the brave doctor decided not to run.

"There was no question of evacuating the building as she would have died within minutes," Dr Sapkota told the media.

Finally, the surgery was successful and the woman was saved. But that was not all. Just six hours after the earthquake, Dr Sapkota was back at the operating table where he performed a complicated C-section on another woman.

"She delivered a healthy baby. And there I was holding new life, with death all around. Nature's ways are inscrutable," Dr Sapkota said.

The Logical Indian salutes this braveheart doctor who risked his own life to save his patient. We hope these stories of bravery and hope continue to inspire the world.

When Prahlada’s father, Hiranyakasipu drew him near and fondly asked the boy to repeat what he had learnt from his teacher, Prahlada replied, “I learned the secret essence of all learning.” The father was glad and asked him, “Tell me the essential thing that you have mastered.” Prahlada said, “Father! He who illumines everything, He who finally absorbs everything with Himself, is the One, Lord Narayana. Having Him always in mind and experiencing the bliss thereof awards fulfillment to all.” He further said, “Father! You conquered the entire world, but you failed to conquer your senses. How then can you receive grace from Narayana? These material skills and worldly achievements are hollow possessions. The knowledge and experience of the One Divine (Brahma-vidya), that alone is worthy to be pursued,” said the child prodigy. (Sutra Vahini, Ch 2)

I asserted that, on this basis, the Japan-U.S. alliance is an “alliance of hope” that takes on various challenges facing the world, and stated that Japan started out on the path of a peace-loving nation bearing in mind feelings of deep remorse over World War II.
I received applause and standing ovations several times during my address. I believe that I succeeded in making this a major springboard for fortifying Japan-U.S. relations still further.

You may undertake any number of spiritual practices, but never forget God’s name even for a moment. Then you will be protected. Never do anything that will take you away from God. You can achieve anything through prayer. You need not pray loudly; it is sufficient if you pray mentally. Some people misunderstand that God will not rescue them if they do not pray loudly. God resides in your heart. He listens to your prayers all the time. If you aspire to attain His grace, you must contemplate on Him incessantly. Worldly difficulties come and go. Do not attach much importance to them. Through prayer you can overcome any difficulties. Only God’s grace is true and everlasting. God protected the lives of many devotees and alleviated their suffering in response to their prayers. So, make every effort to earn the grace of God. (Divine Discourse, 21 July 2005)
