Believe it or not, around 1,000 divorce application are being filed every month in various family courts of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.
Gopala Krishna Kalanidhi, advocate at High Court of Andhra Pradesh who conducted a survey on divorce cases across the Telangana state said, 'The number of divorce applications went up by 60 per cent in just one year.'
Couples from middle class background and employees of corporate industry are way ahead in breaking marital relations compared to the economically poor and small scale employees.
Shockingly a whopping 40 per cent of the total divorce applications are coming only from software employees. It is higher in the couples where both the partners are working professionals and have different working hours.
Work pressure and the modern lifestyle have drastically reduced the personal space of family and created psychological gap between couples, said Gopala Krishna. The survey also revealed that the surrounding districts of Hyderabad are following the trend of capital city and witnessing more divorce cases.
Mahabubnagar district which registers around 600 divorce application every month is not only the second highest in entire Telangana, but also has more cases than all the districts of Andhra Pradesh. Again the employment of male partner plays a key role here, says Goapala Krishna.
Long lasting court cases are adding to the woes of divorce applicants which have direct psychological effect on them. It takes at least six months to grant divorce if the application is mutual from both the parties. Sometimes it also takes four years in case of diverse opinion between partners, said, Gopala Krishna.
There are other factors which are leading to unfortunate acts like suicides of divorcees. Some also lose their jobs because of spending more time on attending court cases. All troubles including financial and social issues begin once the divorce application is filed, said Gopala Krishna.
Providing counselling to the couples in right time is the only solution for this problem. But unfortunately the state lacks professional counsellors to handle such sensitive cases, he added.
