Many years ago a famous British cost accountant said that 'price is a policy'. This looks good to teach in a classroom. When an aged poor fruit vendor is forced to give in to a hard bargainer it is heart rendering. When price has no ethical and social angles to it, can free markets ever work in poor communities? Or will the regulatory authorities fix prices and run the economy?
