Narayana Murthy Says Son-in-Law's 'Vision' and 'Integrity' Led to his UK Election Win
Rishi Sunak, who has been married to Mr Murthy's daughter, Akshata, since 2009, romped home as a candidate for the Conservative Party.
BENGALURU:  Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy today exulted in the victory of his son-in-law Rishi Sunak, in his maiden run for a seat in the British Parliament.

"I am positive that he will do well as an MP," Mr. Murthy said.

"He has big shoes to fill since he is succeeding William Hague," he added. Mr. Hague, Britain's former foreign secretary, represented the constituency before he quit active politics last July.

Rishi Sunak, who has been married to Mr Murthy's daughter, Akshata, since 2009, won as a candidate for the Conservative Party, which beat projections to score a convincing majority in the general election.

"It's a great honour to have been selected as the Conservative Candidate for Richmond for the 2015 General Election," Mr Sunak said on his Web site.

"I am very happy that Rishi has won convincingly in Richmond - Yorks with such a majority. He and Akshata worked very hard, beat the pavement and communicated his merit, integrity and his vision for his constituency," Mr Murthy said.

Mr Sunak, an Oxford University graduate, is the co-founder of a 1 billion pound global investment firm that specializes in funding small British businesses. Akshata Murthy was his classmate at the Stanford Business School. The couple has two daughters, Krishna and Anoushka.

The Richmond-York constituency is known as an "ultra-safe Conservative seat," because the Conservatives have had a successful run there in previous elections.
