CM reviews status of 7 missions
In a review meeting with 7 Mission conveners here at Secretariat today, Chief Minister Sri N. Chandrababu Naidu said their focus has to be on identifying growth engines as well as following up with departments on works.
In horticulture, he said that best practices should be incorporated. This, according to him, will enhance the production by 30%. “That is why we have drip irrigation in 5 lakh acres in the state,” he added.
He suggested that tomato farmers be encouraged to have the crop for three times a year so that they earn nearly Rs1 lakh (Rs30,000 for every crop).
In view of the increased consumption of fruits, dairy products, meat and poultry, the Chief Minister said that the Primary Sector Mission head should focus on meeting the demand and educate people about the health benefits of consuming them.
He directed the (Social Sector) Mission head to focus on bringing down Infant Mortality Rate and Maternal Mortality Rate to meet the Millenium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals.
Rayalseema should be made into horticulture hub, he said, adding that Andhra Pradesh has the potential to become aquaculture hub, he said.
He informed the Mission heads that PepsiCo, which will procure huge amounts of agriculture produce, will soon start operations in Sri City SEZ.
The Chief Minister was informed that the contribution of tissue-culture banana to the GSDP between Rs.3000 crore-Rs.6,700 crore. Walmart, Lulu and another US-based juice-maker is keen on investing in Andhra Pradesh, he added.
The Chief Minister said the state will give additional funds if income-generating sources are identified. “Industries and horticulture departments should coordinate in food-processing and cold-chain linkages,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said that the government is keen on spending Rs300 crore for solid-waste management and bio-fuel production. “This will help us beautify urban areas and use bio-fuel for power generation,” he said.
He directed that construction of buildings should happen in a hassle-free way, without any complaints from builders. “Even Bill payments should happen in a transparent manner,” the Chief Minister added.
In the vicinity of ports, the Chief Minister suggested, that a logistics hub be established.
All heads of departments and commissioners were present at the meeting.
