Message from Prime Minister Shinzo Abe:
It is extremely important for individuals and for society that a person who makes a mistake recover from it, and not make the same mistake twice.
Today, I listened to the stories of people who are out in the field providing support by walking alongside people who have committed offenses. I was struck by their feelings of wanting these people to somehow get back on their feet.
The important thing in preventing repeat offenses is for society as a whole to accept people who have committed offenses and support their recovery going forward. The government will strongly push forward with integrated measures by the public and private sectors to prevent repeat offenses.
