Infusing new energy in our ancient links with the Arab world
After his visit to the TCS all women IT centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Saudi Chambers of Commerce for an interaction with business leaders. He met with the Saudi Commerce Minister, 30 Saudi CEOs and Indian business leaders and they discussed how the#IndiaSaudi business story is being scripted.
PM Modi began his speech by saying, "King Salman always tells me that he was taught by an Indian teacher, indicating the depth of our ties. I believe this is a very important meeting. I am only the fourth Indian Prime Minister to visit Saudi Arabia. But we have a centuries old relationship.
India has three things which are our calling card - demographic dividend, demand and democracy. Although it has been less than two years since I came to power, we have taken several policy initiatives to spur growth and progress."
Talking about healthcare he said, "In a sector driven by technology changes, India's low cost technical devices have gained global renown. India's health sector which is globally extremely cost competitive can emerge as a bright spot in health tourism. Indian nurses, present in large numbers in the Gulf, are a testament to our well trained man power. Let us move beyond merely the export-import relationship. Joint investment and technology transfers are areas that we should explore."
PM spoke about policy changes in India as well, "My Govt will continue to work towards the establishment of a predictable long term taxation regime. We are also working towards Banking Sector reform and making sure all our states are on board. From petroleum to renewable energy, infrastructure, defence and agriculture, there is a tremendous opportunity for expanding our cooperation. India and Saudi Arabia should look at working together for building a dynamic global management sector for the cyber world."
PM concluded his address by saying, "#IndiaSaudiArabia are old friends, but we are ready to take bold new steps into a golden future."
